I thought I’d do a kitchen tour on the blog for you guys today. It’s been a while since I shared my kitchen here, and so it was time. Next to photos, I will tell a little more about kitchen styling, our practical version for a pretty kitchen.
As you can see in the photo above there is quite a lot going on styling wise on the left, and not much going on on the right. It’s purely practical. For a good (styled) photo I could’ve put a towel or a cookbook on the empty area, but this is what our kitchen looks like in reallife. Okay, there might be a little more mess then. But the areas around the sink I need to keep cleared of stuff, because it’s our “work area”. We make our food there, for instance. It would drive me crazy if I had to move stuff before I can do something.
So this is quite a busy area. On the left of the stove we have our kitchen supplies. Herbs, oils, oatmeal, etcetera. It’s a leftover corner we used practically. I love these glass jars from Ikea and there very practical when it comes to keeping your herbs fresh. I recommend these to anyone, because they’re pretty as well!
On the right of the stove we have some cutting boards and a salt & pepper set from Menu. Cutting boards are a great way to dress up your kitchen. Combine different shapes, sizes and colors (or, materials) and you have a beautiful still-life.
Why I put plants in the corner is pretty simple: I want to put something there because it feels too empty if there’s nothing there. And because I can’t find any other items that look good there, I use plants. They match the green ceiling, the brick wall and stand out against the white kitchen. I always see beautiful kitchen corners on Pinterest, but they just don’t work for me. I need a big statement and plants do the trick.
So moving on to the right. As you can see this is also a very empty corner, and that’s purely practical. We just have our kettle and coffee machine in the corner and that’s it. To me it’s necessary to have a big area in your kitchen you can use, room to work and to make a mess.
And if we turn a little, this is a little kitchen nook we have. I am so in love with this window, I remember loving this so much when we first viewed the house before buying it. This a usually the area that’s gets messy, because you put stuff there and then forget to clean up because it’s always behind you when you’re in the kitchen. But oh well, it is what it is :)
So, that was my take on kitchen styling. Hope you enjoyed this and thank you for reading :)
