A new category on the blog: Design Classics. Since I am a huge fan of design items, I thought I would do a serie on my blog showing the design classics we have in our house and the story behind it. Every one of these items are bought with a lot of love, and a lot of thinking was involved. Designer items are usually more expensive, and therefor harder to buy for most of us. But I can honestly say I am loving each and every one of them, and I appreciate them a lot becáuse of all the thought that went into them. I love the idea of items that are sustainable. And while I realize not all items will make it a lifetime, I’m pretty sure a lot of them will. We just need to buy a bigger house, eventually.
So let’s kick off with without a doubt one of my favorites: the Panthella lamp by Louis Poulsen. Designed in 1971 makes it a true design classic. It was the first item I bought for our house. In the city we live in we had a vintage design store, and I loved browsing there. In the first weeks we bought our house I went to that store and saw this Panthella. I loved it so much, I knew I had to have it. After consulting with my husband – which was surprisingly short since he loved it as well – I bought it. So allright, maybe this item wasn’t bought with much thought in it, but hey, love at first sight it was. In between all our renovation mess we put the light, haha. Very practical, since the “head” is quite fragile. Happy it survived. And 3 years later this is still one of my favourite items. Of course it’s moved around the house a lot during those 3 years, but it’s been standing next to our couch for some time now.
This light was designed by Verner Panton, we also have a chair of his – the famous S-chair. If you look at his designs you can see that he is a fan of organic shapes. I personally think that is one of the reasons that this design is still popular today. We bought a vintage version, but they are still for sale today, for instance HERE. And because we love it both so much, we dream about owning the table version as well. Maybe, one day :)
Thank you for reading and hope you like this new category, more to come!
